Labouré-Roi has been a significant part of Burgundy's vinous fabric since 1832. Headquartered in the venerable village of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Labouré-Roi is built around the négociant-éleveur model. Instead of farming a sprawling estate, they select, vinify, and elevate wines from small parcels owned by a network of trusted, independent vignerons. This way, they keep the fermentation, aging, and bottling all under one roof. What's truly interesting is that it allows them to source an incredibly wide range of fruit across all of Burgundy's styles while maintaining crystal-clear consistency in the cellar.
Parcelles D'Excellence Pinot Noir, as with its Chardonnay sibling, reminds me of a super-easy-going Pinot Noir from the Côte Chalonnaise. Like its Burgundy brother, in your glass, it's all about bright red cherry, cranberry, and a hint of wild strawberry with just the lightest whiff of herbal lift and a whisper of spice from élevage. The fully-ripe, fine-grained tannins are perfectly polite and the ample acidity keeps the fruit lively on the palate all through the finish. There's just the right minerality to suggest a Burgundian lineage, although the fruit feels friendlier and more sun-kissed.
