Eric Louis Pinot Noir Rosé is an interesting blend of Pinot Noir with a touch of Cot, offering clean red‑fruited flavors balanced by a vivid white-wine-like freshness. It’s wonderfully food‑friendly, and while great at the table, it’ll be right at home on the patio or by the pool.
Domaine Eric Louis is a fourth‑generation family estate in the southeastern part of Sancerre. Their first vineyards were planted by the family’s grand matriarch, Pauline, in 1890. The estate has steadily grown over the years and now has 35 hectares around the villages of Thauvenay, Ménétréol‑sous‑Sancerre, and Vinon. Like most Sancerre producers, they focus on Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grown on flint and clay‑limestone soils.
Grapes are picked at optimal ripeness and pressed directly, with minimal skin contact, yielding a light color and fine aromatics, while avoiding any over-extraction. Fermentation is cool in stainless steel, and the wine rests briefly on fine lees before bottling in spring to preserve freshness.
In your glass, this plush Loire pink treats you with aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, and a hint of white‑fleshed fruit. Light red berries with just a whisper of spice glide through the palate, finishing with a gentle snap of minerality.
Classic Loire pairings include Crottin de Chavignol and other goat cheeses, grilled river fish with fresh herbs, simple charcuterie, and tomato and herb‑driven salads. It also works well as an apéritif with basic salty snacks and cold meat platters.
Less obvious but equally compelling pairings include sushi and sashimi, Vietnamese spring and summer rolls, lemongrass‑marinated pork, and mildly spiced Thai, Indian, or Japanese dishes. All your favorite picnic fare, like fried chicken, picnic salads, and poke bowls will pair like a dream with the wine’s bright, plush fruit and refreshing brightness.
